Surf North Africa

Surfing in Morocco is an experience that lasts a lifetime. The Moroccan coastline is littered with an abundance of quality setups. Ranging from the famous right-hand points such as Anchor Point, Killer Point and Dracula’s, to semi-secret slabs, quality beach breaks and everything in between. And that is just covering the area around our base in Taghazout. To the north, you find world class waves like Safi described by Gary Elkerton in the 80s as a cross between Jeffery’s Bay and Kirra. There are also a lot of lesser-known quality, uncrowded points, and reefs. If you look to the south the potential to score long point breaks with no crowds at all is endless. Your guide, Hicham Benaissa, has spent a decade delivering advanced and professional surfers into both the known and the secret breaks down in the isolated south. His knowledge and understanding of the entire coast is second to none.
Morocco as a country out of the water is just as amazing and diverse as it is in it. Its influences, derived from Arab, African and European cultures, has created a country that is truly unique. The ancient cultures and traditions that infuse modern Morocco have not changed in centuries, giving you the opportunity to immerse yourself in this unique culture, leaving you feeling as if have traveled into a different world. Morocco’s stunning landscapes from the snow capped Atlas Mountains to the barren Sahara Desert seem worlds apart but can both be experienced on the same day. Add into this mix amazing food and welcoming locals and you have the foundations for a truly unique and unforgettable Surf trip.

Packages
We offer two main types of packages, both of which can be tailored to your specific needs.

The first package is based in Taghazout.

We understand that most intermediate and advanced surfers want a few things from a surf trip. The first is being put in the right surf for your ability. Something that pushes your surfing while still allowing you to feel comfortable in the water. Next, is good advice and feedback. This can be in the form of feedback on your own surfing or learning about the local surf breaks conditions and history of the area. Our head surf guide Hicham has decades of experience putting people in the best conditions for their ability. Whether that is the Coffin brothers to a secret slab or somebody wanting to surf their first wave he has done both for a very long time. He is the best in the game at delivering our guests into the best conditions for them on any given day. On top of this, our accommodation has a friendly vibe with clean and comfortable rooms. Delicious food served morning and night with a great outdoor area to enjoy some good food, a beer or two and watch the sun sink below the Atlantic each night.

Package includes:

– Return airport/bus station transfers from Agadir
– 7 Night accommodation
– 6 x dinner
– 6 x breakfasts consisting of eggs cereal bread tea and coffee
– 6 x lunches consisting of fresh baguettes salads and rice . Also juice and water
– 6 days with guide and car being driven to the best surf breaks for you on the day

The second package is our search week.

The second package we offer is our search weeks. This is where you get the chance to really chase the best waves in the entire country! If it’s going to be pumping deep in the south on the edge of the Sahara then this is where we will go. Spending our time surfing the best empty waves we can put our guests into, fishing, admiring endless sand dunes and generally experiencing what it is like to surf and explore one of the world’s most magnificent and remote surf destinations. This is what we specialize in. For the most part in the south, we camp. It is both the preferred and usually the only option due to the remoteness of the area. But sleeping under the stars of the Sahara is something that has to be experienced to be believed and something that our guests remember for a life time

Alternatively, if the conditions are right and our guests have some of the spots in the north such as Safi in mind we will not hesitate to tailor a package chasing waves up the coast. travelling north allows a combination of camping and hotel / riad type accommodation.

SOUTH:
It is a once in a lifetime opportunity to surf one of the least populated areas on the planet. The surf potential in the south in enormous but to nail it requires several things:

First, you have to know the coast and where to be looking – Hicham has this from years of experience searching this part of the coast.

Second, understand that it really is a mission to surf in the south. We travel long distances often off road. We set up camp each afternoon on the beach. While you finish your surf we start preparing a fire on the beach then dinner and tea.

If you are a dedicated surfer who wants to travel and see what this amazing part of the world has to offer then consider this package. It will be something you will never forget.

NORTH:
Surfing in the North trips can reach as far as Kenitra. In between our area and Safi, there is an abundance of waves. Lots of points, of course, beaches reef’s, the lot. Also amazing towns like Essaouira and Sidi Koki. Before we leave we access the charts and make a rough plan for the week. Keep In mind when considering this trip it is similar to the south. We still camp most nights. But there will be options to stay in some hotels and riads along the way. When we are not surfing we fish, relax on the beach, go sight seeing or drive to the next destination.

Package includes:

– Guide for the week
– 4X4 car and driver
– Food for the week. breakfast lunch and dinner
– Everything you need for camping: tents, esky’s, cooking equipment etc.
– Fishing gear
– Return Airport transfers from Agadir

Itinerary & Schedule

Seasons and surf
The best time of the year to surf morocco is during autumn and winter. Spring can still produce very good waves but is slightly less consistent. European summers mean long flat periods. So we run our tours from September until the end of April. Swells travel from the north down the coast from the active Atlantic. More often than not they are long period swells due to the fact that they have traveled a long way from their source. The winds are predominantly from the north-west to the north-east and light during winter. Within an hours drive of Taghazout, you can sample at least 8-10 point breaks a variety of reefs and beaches and a few slabs. We do try every day to find the best balance of good quality waves and low crowds because let’s face it a surf trip is mainly about getting as many good waves as you can. The sea temperatures vary between 16-22°C/61-72°F with the temperature on the coast being between 23-29°C for most of the year.
