Ika Lahi Lodge is right on the foreshore inside Hunga Island Lagoon. World class sport fishing right at your back door … just minutes from the Lagoon entrance you are fishing in 3,000 ft of water where you may encounter Marlin, Sailfish, Wahoo, Yellow Fin Tuna, Mahimahi and a host of tough fighting reef fish like Giant Trevally and Dog tooth.
The lodge features quality twin share log cabin accommodation, each with its’ own ensuite toilet and shower.
A la carte restaurant specialising in fish cuisine… freshly caught each day… Mahimahi, Yellow fin, Wahoo, Coral Trout and more.
The “Bait Box Bar” is fully stocked with a large selection of spirits, liqueurs, wine, local and imported beer, tropical juices and soft drinks.
Guests may choose to relax, taking in the tranquility of the moment or take a swim, snorkeling or kayaking. Or perhaps, a short walk through the native rainforest and up to “Ika Lahi Lookout” – a spectacular view that takes in 180 degrees of crystal clear South Pacific Ocean.
The outer Hunga reef offers exciting land based fishing or snorkeling for those whom wish to try something a little more adventurous.
In our a la carte restaurant, we treat you to fine dining South Pacific style with fresh fish, our specialty. We will delight your taste buds with the catch of the day – Yellow Fin tuna sashimi, Cajun seared Wahoo with dipping sauces, pan-fried Mahimahi drizzled with fresh limes, mango butter or a tangy tropical salsa, poached Wahoo with fresh coconut, lime and coriander and more!
The Bait Box Bar is right on the waters edge and offers a wide range of beverages to compliment your meal. Dine inside or outside on the balcony and take in the stunning lagoon views… simply breathtaking!
The tranquility and ambience of our private tropical beach setting accompanies our comfortable, quality log cabin accommodation, waterfront restaurant with fine dining – south pacific style (a la carte menu) and bar.
We also have kayaks, snorkeling gear and land based fishing tackle for you to explore nature’s wonderful water playground.
The Kingdom of Tonga lies 400 miles East of Fiji and 400 miles South of Samoa. The climate is very pleasant with slightly cooler average temperatures and lower humidity than that of other South Pacific regions.
Ika Lahi Lodge is situated in Hunga Lagoon within the Vava’u group of islands – the most northern island group.
Vava’u is the ‘jewel’ of the South Pacific and is renowned for it’s crystal clear waters, safe anchorages, superb sailing, whale watching, impressive diving and world class game fishing.
All international carriers (Air New Zealand, Air Pacific, Pacific Blue Airlines. ) land in Nuku’alofa, the capital of Tonga and to get to Vava’u, it is a short 50 minute scenic flight aboard the 50 seater Convair. You fly north over the stunning Ha’apai islands group and low enough that you might get to see some of our majestic humpback whales.
All our guests are personally met at the Vava’u airport on arrival and a short 35 minute trip by boat and you are within the protected waters of Hunga Lagoon and Ika Lahi Lodge.

Itinerary & Schedule
We have been operating for 14 years based at Ika Lahi Lodge, Hunga Lagoon, Neiafu – Tonga.
As the only full service Fishing Lodge in Tonga we have achieved market leadership and for the last 14 consecutive year ‘Reel Addiction’ has been the top billfish boat. We currently hold 174 National and Club Records and 44 all-tackle-records. Since the NSW tagging program started acknowledging tagging data Reel Addiction has been the top blue marlin tagging boat in the International section for three consecutive years.
Our blue marlin tally is currently sitting on 1,730 of which 96% have been released.
I am the IGFA Tonga Representative an Ambassador Captain and have served multiple terms as President for both the Tonga International Game Fish Association and the Vava’u Sport Fishing Club. I am also the Records Keeper and Press Officer for both associations. I also write feature articles for fishing magazines around the region – NZ Fishing News and Australian Blue Water.
Our current vessel ‘Reel Addiction’ is a 31 ft Griffin-Dorado and no other boat in Tonga’s game fishing history has caught as many blue marlin or held as many records.
Our Charter Rate is NZ$1,200 a day for in-house guests or NZ$1,400 a day for anglers accommodated elsewhere.
Our accommodation rate based on twin share is NZ$275/ night. The meal Plan is NZ$165 per person per day and Transfers – pick and return to Vava’u Airport is NZ$130 per person.
All international carriers – Air New Zealand, Air Pacific and Pacific Blue fly into Nuku’alofa (The capital of Tongatapu).

Pack light as the climate is temperate – maybe a light sweater for evenings.
Pack sunscreen, hat, sunglasses, aqua/water shoes, camera, spare batteries, film, insect repellent and any personal medication to bring with you.
