Lady Elliot Island is a coral cay located at the southern tip of the World Heritage Listed Great Barrier Reef. Situated within a highly protected ’Green Zone’ the island is a sanctuary for over 1,200 species of marine life and is known for its abundance of manta rays, turtles, amazing array of spectacular marine life and unspoilt coral reef.
Imagine diving in the world’s biggest aquarium, the Great Barrier Reef and experiencing crystal clear water with an amazing array of marine life. Since being declared a Green Zone (no take, fish or spear) in 2005, the marine environment around Lady Elliot Island has gone from ‘Great’ to ‘Amazing’! The diversity, quantity and size of the marine animals is truly remarkable and it’s just getting better with the passage of time. Lady Elliot Island offers a tremendous, and almost unparalleled anywhere, diversity of uncrowded easily accessible dive locations to experience the biggest coral reef system in the world.
Visibility is over 20 metres for much of the year and encounters with giant Manta Rays, Green, Hawksbill and Loggerhead Turtles and an abundance of incredible marine life are a daily occurrence. PADI recently named Lady Elliot Island as one of the ‘Top 5’ locations in the world to go diving with Manta Rays. We regularly have close encounters with whales under water while diving and snorkelling in the months of May right through to October.
At Lady Elliot Island, our experienced Dive staff personally escort all dives, we schedule two dives per day with occasional 3rd daily dives and optional night dives available subject to numbers and weather conditions. Our PADI Dive Shop offers courses to cater for all levels of experience.
Lady Elliot Island boasts 20 incredible dive sites around the island which are easily accessible by boat dives, please see. These dive sites are within close proximity to the shore and have an almost limitless variety of marine and coral life.
Two Bedroom Island Suites
Offering absolute beach frontage, the spacious two-bedroom suites accommodate up to four people and features a separate air-conditioned lounge room and private bathroom. The suites have a private balcony with lagoon views over Sunrise Beach. Each suite has a mini fridge, tea & coffee making facilities and a microwave.
Sleeps two or four
Arranged in blocks of three, the Reef Units are ideal for couples or families, offering either queen beds or a combination of a queen and bunk-style beds. Each unit is slightly elevated, featuring polished timber floors, ensuite bathrooms and a balcony with to make the most of the ocean views. The Reef Units are less than 10 metres from Sunrise Beach and Garden Units within 20 to 30 metres walk to the beach. The units are fan cooled and have a mini fridge and tea & coffee making facilities.
Arranged in blocks of three, the Garden Units are ideal for couples or families, offering a queen and bunk-style beds. Each unit is slightly elevated, featuring polished timber floors, ensuite bathrooms and a balcony with to make the most of the garden views. The Garden Units are located within 20 to 30 metres walk to the beach. The units are fan cooled and have a mini fridge and tea & coffee making facilities.
Situated within 20 to 30 metres of Sunrise Beach, the Eco Cabins are roomy, permanent safari-style tents with polished wooden floors and shared bathroom facilities. Each hut accommodates four people with two sets of single bunk beds. Electric lighting and power is connected in every cabin, including a freestanding fan.
Beachfront Café and Lagoon Bar
The Beachfront Café offers a selection of snacks and beverages including a range of salads, burgers, coffee and alcoholic beverages. Situated within the Beachfront Dining Room, this provides the perfect place to have lunch or an afternoon snack. The Lagoon Bar overlooks the Great Barrier Reef and is the perfect place to wind down after a day’s adventure on the reef. It offers a variety of Cocktails, Australian & imported Beers, Wine and Spirits. Enjoy the magical ocean views from the deck!
Sunset Platter – Available for purchase from the bar: includes cheeses, biscuits and antipasto. Along with a nice bottle of wine, it is the perfect accompaniment to a beautiful sunset.
Beachfront Dining Room*
There is only one Restaurant on Lady Elliot Island, the Beachfront Dining Room offers full buffet dining including a variety of tasty and wholesome dishes. Breakfast and Dinner are included in the overnight tariff. Enjoy the magical views from the Lagoon deck or some quiet dining time on the western deck. Buffet lunch is also available.

The Lady Elliot Island Dive Shop is a PADI Resort Association member and has a comprehensive stock of hire equipment available. Scuba diving is conducted daily and qualified dive staff escort all dives. We schedule two dives per day with optional night dives available subject to numbers and weather conditions. Our PADI Dive Shop offers courses to cater to all levels of experience and a full range of scuba equipment is available for hire.
If this is your first time, you can try our ‘Discover Scuba Dive’. That way you will not miss a breath taking opportunity to experience the many riches that lie at the bottom of the Great Barrier Reef.
There is so much to discover on Lady Elliot Island and there are plenty of activities on offer to help you learn more about the Island and it’s unique history, flora, fauna and incredible marine life. Our slice of paradise provides an environment that inspires a diversity of exciting nature based activities. We have a dedicated Activities Team on Lady Elliot Island and we offer a range of free guided activities and/or tours daily. The guided tours/activities are available three times a day, in the morning, afternoon and evening. The weekly scheduled activities are printed in the Coral Capers Activities leaflet in guest rooms and the Activities board outside the Reef Education Centre is updated daily.
Given Lady Elliot’s status as one of the best snorkelling and diving locations in the world, exploring the wonders of the Great Barrier Reef is one of the main activities on the island. Guests can explore this amazing eco system by Reef Walking, Snorkelling or Diving. Please see Snorkel & Dive pages for more information. We offer guided Reef Walking tours or guests can do this on their own with the aid of reef walking poles and seascopes (covered reef walking shoes or crocs must be worn to avoid cuts and/or injuries).
And for those in search of games to pass the day away, the Eco Resort offers beach volleyball, soccer, table tennis and a pool table. A small selection of dvd’s, books and board games are available in the Manta Lounge
